A Umayyad envoy strongly condemns the ongoing Israeli attacks inside Syria – the seventh day

The United Nations Special Envoy to Syria, Gear Pedersen, condemned the ongoing Israeli attacks within Syrian territory and continuous violations in the demilitarized zone and around them, which were created as part of the 1974 ceasefire agreement.

“Such actions are unacceptable and threatening to destabilize the already fragile situation, increasing regional tension and undermining efforts to reduce escalation and sustainable political transition,” said Jerr Pedersen – in a statement conveyed by the United Nations News Center – that “such works are unacceptable and threaten to destabilize the already fragile situation, increase regional tension and undermine efforts to reduce escalation and sustainable political transition.”

The condemnation comes in the wake of a recent wave of air strikes and land raids that targeted southern Syria, which the Israeli government says is necessary for national security and removing weapons from the hands of armed groups hostile to Israel.

Pedersen called on Israel to “stop violations, fulfill its international obligations, and refrain from unilateral measures that exacerbate the conflict.”

He urged all parties to the conflict throughout the region to respect Syria’s sovereignty, unity, independence and territorial integrity, adding that “constructive dialogue and strict commitment to international agreements and international law are necessary for security.”
