The United Nations warns of devastating consequences to close the crossings and prevent aid to the people of Gaza – the seventh day

UN spokesman, Stephen Dujarric, stressed that closing the crossings and preventing aid has devastating consequences for the people of Gaza, who have just begun to recover from months of deprivation and hunger, calling on countries and influencers to use all available means to ensure the continued ceasefire.

According to the United Nations Media Center, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs confirmed that the crossings to Gaza – Karam Abu Salem, Zikim and Irerez – are still closed to trucks for the third day in a row.

“Dujarric” said that the Israeli authorities rejected the international attempts to collect the humanitarian supplies that crossed the Karam Abu Salem crossing before its closure.

For his part, the UNRWA Commissioner -General Philip Lazarini said that Israel’s decision to stop aid to Gaza “threatens the lives of 16 months of civilized civilians.” He added that humanitarian aid must continue to flow widely, similar to the past six weeks when the ceasefire began.

Despite recent developments, the United Nations and its human partners are making on the ground everything they can to continue operations throughout the Gaza Strip. The United Nations Regional Population Fund Office in the Arab countries said that the Israeli government’s decision to prevent aid to enter Gaza causes more suffering for women and girls who were already deprived of the basic necessities to survive, threaten their health and affect their dignity.

The UN office emphasized that the restrictions imposed ignore international humanitarian law in starkly, which is not negotiable and unambiguously stipulates that Israel should facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid regardless of whether the ceasefire is steadfast or not.

The Fund said that the re -imposition of the siege on Gaza threatens the opposite of the course of progress at a critical time, as people struggle to stay. Since the start of the ceasefire, the United Nations Population Fund and its partners have focused on restoring basic services for women and girls, providing reproductive health and protection services to 170,000 women and girls, and established and equipped 16 temporary health facilities to provide critical health care for thousands of pregnant women and mothers from other activities.

Despite these efforts, the Fund said that the needs of women and girls are still enormous, as the war left an unimaginable destruction while the disease and hunger spread and the health system became ruined.

The Fund called on all parties to respect its obligations under international law completely and urgently, to lift the siege and allow humanitarian aid to flow freely to Gaza.

“Dujarric” confirmed that the Israeli operations in the Jenin refugee camp (northern the West Bank) continued and expanded to the eastern part of the city of Jenin, “which resulted in more deaths, destruction and displacement.

He said that the Israeli forces ordered the residents of that part of the city of Jenin to evacuate their homes, which led to the displacement of about 30 families, including at least three families that had been displaced earlier.

He added: “During the operation, the Israeli forces used bulldozers, which led to the destruction of the infrastructure and the interruption of electricity, and the tightening of restrictions on arrival and movement to and from the city.”
