The United Kingdom confirms its full support for the Syrian people .. It expresses its concern about the Israeli operations – the seventh day

Today, Friday, the United Kingdom affirmed its full support for the Syrian people, which deserves a better and safer future, stressing its commitment to continuing the support of the government and the Syrian people in their endeavor to overcome the challenges of the current stage.

During a speech by British Ambassador James Cariocy, deputy permanent representative of the United Kingdom to the United Nations, during a session of the UN Security Council on Syria, following the raising of the new Syrian flag at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Kariuki said, “The presence of the new Syrian Foreign Minister in the Council today represents a strong reminder of the opportunity available to Syria to build a safer, peaceful and prosperous future,” adding that the United Kingdom stands by the Syrian people in its endeavor to achieve this shift.

He pointed to tangible progress in the political process, including forming a new government, activating a constitutional committee, and steps to confront security threats, including those related to the use of chemical weapons, in addition to a new agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces as an indication of national reconciliation efforts.

He pointed out that Britain removed – this week – sanctions on several sectors, including trade, energy and finance, with the aim of encouraging investment and supporting the Syrian economy’s recovery, especially in the field of energy production, which he described as “essential for reconstruction.”

Regarding the regional conditions, London expressed concern about the recent Israeli operations, calling on all parties to respect the 1974 engagement agreement, and to preserve the sovereignty of Syria and the integrity of its lands.
