Syrian security sources revealed, on Monday morning, the seizure of a large shipment of weapons that include anti -armor missiles and various various weapons, which were on their way to smuggling from Damascus Governorate to the As -Suwayda Governorate.

The operation took place in the vicinity of the city of Izra, in the Daraa Governorate, where the General Security Forces managed to intercept the shipment before it reached its destination, in a security development that sheds light on the activity of arms smuggling networks in southern Syria.

This comes in conjunction with the intensification of the Syrian Ministry of Interior for its security campaigns against unlicensed weapons and drugs, as the Public Security Department recently implemented a massive campaign in the “Southern Raml” neighborhood in the city of Latakia, targeting the workers of narcotic drugs and wanted in criminal cases, in addition to controlling the escaping weapons.

According to what was reported by “Syria TV”, the campaign was carried out as part of a tight security plan, and it came in response to citizens’ complaints, in which accurate raids and searches were used aimed at regaining control of the neighborhood, and the campaign continues until its entire goals are achieved.

In the same context, the official Syrian news agency “SANA” reported that units of the General Security carried out a new security operation in the town of Maarba in the eastern countryside of Daraa, targeting sites affiliated with groups classified as out of law. The campaign resulted in the seizure of quantities of ammunition and various weapons, in reference to the continued activity of these groups in some areas of the south.
