Aboul Gheit: Protecting the right to work is a top priority for all governments in the current stage – the seventh day

The Secretary -General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said that the global situation today is unprecedented in the speed of its pursuit and the depth of its impact and its exit on the ordinary and the usual, as the lack of certainty has become a dominant feature of the global economy, and breaking the rules is the rule and rapid change is the dominant characteristic.

He added in his speech before the Arab Labor Conference, that these transformations, which cannot be surrounded by their effects and their extended consequences and are still under the formation, explaining that the transformations will touch all nations, rich and poor, and that their effects will inevitably extend to the workforce in all countries

He explained that protecting the right to work and reducing unemployment rates will represent a top priority for all governments in the next stage.

The nature of the work itself has witnessed major changes in the recent period, according to the Secretary -General, as jobs or their contributions have disappeared in exchange for greater emergence of other jobs, especially in the services sector, explaining that the major transformations in technology usually bring with it changes in the nature of work and disturbance – may be long or short – in the labor market.

He added this is a historical fact that can be easily extracted from the process of transformation from agricultural to industrial societies, which was accompanied by the pain and changes of the vast majority of societies.

Aboul Gheit said that since the world was in a similar technological transformation process – if not far in its extent and the most dangerous in its impact – it is expected that this process will accompany transformations in the nature of work and jobs, pointing to the increasing emergence of artificial intelligence technologies, which undoubtedly constitutes risks to employment rates. All those interested in work and workers should pay attention to them, especially when these comprehensive technologies enter use to various fields, and reshape production operations. In industry, services, in health, education, and other aspects of human activity.

He stressed that preparing for this revolution, which has already begun, is an imposition of an eye to reduce risks, and bring possible gains, stressing that we must always set our eyes to the human element, which is the origin of the production process and the goal of any development policy, where the defending of the right to work remains an urgent necessity, but long -term planning must include different elements to deal with the wave of artificial intelligence and new technologies, especially in the field of digital transformation, among which is the flexibility in re -directing workers Towards new jobs with all the requirements for rehabilitation and training.

And if the nature of the times is the rapid change, according to Aboul Gheit, adaptation and flexibility become basic principles in setting work policies.

He said, “There is no doubt that the legislation and trade union organizations in the Arab countries also have to adapt to these rapid changes with an open mind and insight into the future, with a continuous insistence to defend the right of each individual to work, and to confront the unemployment of youth in particular as it is one of the most dangerous social and political pests,” he said.

In light of the war of extermination that the Palestinian people are exposed to, which aims to remove it from its land and desecrate it from its homeland, the Secretary -General saluted and appreciated the International Labor Organization as well Completely in all the structures of all the International Labor Organization, and Palestine will participate during this year with a tripartite delegation consisting of representatives of government, workers and employers.
