A Syrian Lebanese meeting in Damascus to enhance the mechanisms of military coordination – the seventh day

The head of the Syrian Staff, Major General Ali Al -Naasan, and the director of the Lebanese Army Cooperation and Coordination Office, Brigadier Michel Peter, held a meeting on Tuesday, during which they discussed strengthening military coordination between the two countries.

A statement by the Ministry published by the Syrian News Agency “SANA” said: “The Chief of Staff, Major General Ali Al -Naasan, received the Lebanese Army’s association official, Brigadier Michel Boutros, to enhance military coordination and develop the mechanisms of joint action between the two brotherly countries.”

The ministry explained that this meeting “comes within a series of continuous meetings between the two sides.”

Yesterday, Monday, Syrian President Ahmed Al -Shara, received at the People’s Palace in Damascus, the Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, on his first visit to the Syrian capital since the fall of the previous regime at the head of a ministerial delegation that included foreign ministers, Youssef Raji, the defense Michel Mansi and the interior Ahmed Al -Hajjar.

The two sides discussed various files, including demarcation, trade and economic relations, smuggling prevention, and looking at civil aviation lines.

The two sides also discussed in the meeting the issue of facilitating the safe and dignified return of refugees to their lands and homes with the help of the United Nations and the sister and friendly countries, according to a statement issued by the Lebanese Prime Minister.

The statement indicated that the Lebanese delegation discussed the fate of the missing and the Lebanese detainees in Syria, in addition to the Syrian authorities’ demand to assist several judicial files, and hand over the wanted persons to justice in Lebanon and some crimes that the Assad regime is accused. The file of the Syrian detainees was also discussed in Lebanese prisons.

The visit had started with an expanded meeting between the Syrian and Lebanese delegations, followed by a lunch and then a retreat between the two presidents and peace that lasted for more than half an hour.

The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the joint talks in Damascus were “positive and constructive.”

President Salam invited the Sharia President and the Foreign Minister Asaad Al -Shaibani to visit Lebanon.
