The International Organization for Migration said on Tuesday that two -thirds of Sudan’s population is in urgent need of food aid in light of the continued violent fighting between the Sudanese army and the rapid support militia that entered its third year.
“The war between the army and the rapid support forces that erupted on April 15, 2023 has completed its second year without loving the horizon in the hope of stopping it.”
“There are more than 30 million people – i.e. two -thirds of Sudan’s population – in urgent need of humanitarian aid, including 16 million children,” said a statement issued by the International Organization.

The statement called for immediate and coordinated international measures to help alleviate the unimaginable human suffering caused by the conflict and prevent more instability throughout the region.

For her part, Amy Bob, Director General of the International Organization for Migration, said: “The war has pushed Sudan to the brink of the abyss. Thousands of lives have been lost due to violence, families were torn, and the hopes and aspirations of millions were destroyed in the face of famine, disease and the complete collapse of the economy.”

“Even in light of the violence, many of the displaced are trying to return to their homes, to find complete destruction, and Sudan strongly needs humanitarian aid, and no less important than that, is a long -term investment to ensure people’s ability to return safely, and they and their societies can recover and rebuild their lives.”

The statement pointed out that with the continued displacement across the border and the fragile conditions in neighboring countries such as South Sudan and Chad, the risk of destabilizing regional stability is increasing, calling for the completion of the humanitarian response with permanent and sustainable solutions to returnees, refugees and host communities and governments.
