The European Union announces the provision of 1.6 billion euros as aid to the Palestinian Authority – the seventh day

The European Union has expressed its intention to strengthen the Palestinian Authority as part of the two -state solution they claim, despite Israel’s opposition.

European diplomatic sources announced – according to the French newspaper “Lovigaro”, on Monday, that the European Union announced the provision of aid of 1.6 billion euros to the Palestinians, with more than half of this amount to strengthen the Palestinian Authority.

The European Union Commissioner for the Mediterranean Affairs, “Dubrafka Soyka” in Luxembourg, stressed before the start of the European Union’s foreign ministers meeting: “We will announce a large package” of financial aid.

The European Commissioner explained that “this is crucial because we want to know how the Palestinian Authority will rule, not only the West Bank, but Gaza too.” He added that the initial reforms, especially in the social field, have already started.

A number of European ministers called for a return to a ceasefire in Gaza, as the situation continues to deteriorate.

“We have to return to a ceasefire, allow humanitarian aid to arrival without obstacle, and release the hostages.”

The Palestinian Prime Minister “Muhammad Mustafa” is scheduled to meet with ministers from the twenty -seven member states today, Monday, to assess the situation and discuss the reforms demanded by the European Union.

It is noteworthy that last July, the Europeans announced the provision of 400 million euros as aid to the Palestinians, and made the release of their additional assistance conditional on the conduct of reforms within the Palestinian Authority.

France last week announced that it might recognize the Palestinian state “next June” at a conference that will head it in conjunction with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the United Nations in New York.
