The United Nations warns of very difficult humanitarian conditions in Yemen – the seventh day

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha) has warned that the conditions in Yemen are still very difficult. After more than ten years of crisis and conflict, more than 19 million people in the country still need basic assistance – including food, health care and shelter in addition to clean water.

According to the United Nations Media Center, today, Tuesday, nearly half of the Yemeni population suffers from hunger and many people do not get enough clean water.

(Ocha) stated that women and children are still bearing the weight of the crisis. While the needs are increasing, funding is shrinking, indicating that the human call to Yemen for this year – which requires $ 2.5 billion – received less than 7 percent ($ 173 million) of the required amount.

The aid workers also face a very difficult work environment, ranging from insecurity and detention to bureaucratic obstacles to attempts to intervene.

UN spokesman Stefan Dujarric said that during the past year, UN partners have reached 8 million of the most vulnerable Yemenis, clean water, medicines and other aids .. There are now more people in need and a fewer number of partners on the ground to reach them, so the need for financing and access is much greater.
