Iraq takes 4 measures after the Trump customs duties decision – the seventh day

The Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shi’a Al -Sudani, chaired a meeting devoted to the study of the economic and commercial effects of the US government’s decision, to increase customs definitions, while directed to take four measures according to what is dictated by the higher interests of the Iraqi economy.

The media office of the head of the Iraqi government said, in a statement: “Prime Minister Muhammad Shi’a Al -Sudani chaired a meeting devoted to the study of economic and commercial implications for the decision of the United States government, to increase customs tariffs on their imports of goods from the countries of the world, and the repercussions of this step on the total global economy, on crude oil prices, and the extent of the Iraqi economy affected in this regard,” according to the Iraqi News Agency (conscious).

He added that “the meeting reviewed the digital data issued by the Ministry of Commerce, which reveals that the percentage of American customs tariffs on Iraqi goods was built on the difference in the trade balance between the two countries, and not because of the customs duties imposed by Iraq on American goods.”

He continued, “It was clear, through the data of the Ministry of Commerce, that the largest part of Iraq’s imports of American goods is carried out through the markets of other countries, as a result of some of the policies of the American companies that follow in commercial dealing with Iraq.”

The statement added, “In light of these data, and in order to ensure the best path to developing the Iraqi economy, the Sudanese directed to work to develop mutual trade relations, by opening outlets for American distributors and commercial agencies, activating Iraqi commercial agencies, and direct commercial dealings between the opposite sectors with the United States.”

He also directed the development of banking services between the banking and financial sectors in Iraq and the United States, and to ensure the achievement of mutual economic interests.

In addition to directing the talks team with the American side to review the foundations of the commercial relationship with the United States, with the aim of improving it, in a manner that ensures the construction of balanced economic and trade relations that guarantee mutual interests between the two parties, and develop positive partnership.

Finally, the Iraqi Prime Minister directed the ministries; Foreign, financial, trade, and stakeholders, opening a dialogue with the opposite American sectoral side, ensuring the strengthening of trade relations, following up on financial markets and economic expertise homes, and submitting weekly reports to his office.
