American delegate Ortagos begins a visit to Beirut – the seventh day

The American delegate, Morgan Ortigos, started on Friday, the second visit, to the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

Ortigos is expected to meet with senior Lebanese officials such as President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, to discuss various issues, including the disarmament of Hezbollah, according to Lebanese media reports.

Political sources in keeping with the visit indicated that Lebanon’s official position is clear and is based on what was stated in the department’s speech and the government’s ministerial statement on adhering to international resolutions and exclusive arms in the hands of the state and the security services in turn.

She said that Lebanon is adhering to these basic principles, as well as the necessity of completing the Israeli withdrawal from the south and stopping the Israeli violations.

She explained that Lebanon does not want to return the clock back, and that there is a design from the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister to follow the process of building the state, adhere to the decisions of international legitimacy, decision 1701, and return to the armistice agreement.

Sources familiar with the presidential position confirmed that the agenda of Lebanon is the same, which is to pressure Israel to implement the ceasefire decision, and to abide by Resolution 1701, so it does not negotiate through new civil or diplomatic committees, and there is a refusal to negotiate normalization.

The “i24 news” channel reported that its visit comes at a time when Israel killed a Hamas commander on Friday, in an air strike before dawn on the Lebanese coastal city of Sidon.

Israel had launched an air strike on southern Beirut earlier this week, killing a Palestinian liaison officer from Hezbollah in the second raid on the capital since the ceasefire in November 2024 between Israel and Hezbollah.
