The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the decision of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to restore Syria’s membership, after 13 years of comment due to the crimes committed by the Assad regime.
The ministry said in a statement: “We welcome the decision of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to restore Syria’s membership after 13 years of comment due to the brutal crimes committed by the Assad regime, and this decision represents an important step towards Syria’s return to the regional and international societies as a free and fair country.”
The statement added: “As a country consisting of those who have suffered one day from the tyranny of Assad before they became the editors of our homeland, we reaffirm our steadfast commitment to the principles of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Justice and Dignity and we are ready to work alongside our brothers and sisters in the Islamic world to rebuild Syria and strengthen our region on the basis of our common values of justice, peace and cooperation.”

Foreign Minister Asaad Al -Shaibani participated in the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at the organization’s headquarters in Jeddah.
Minister Al -Shaibani said that “after activating the Syrian seat in the League of Arab States and participating in the extraordinary summit in Egypt, we are re -activating Syria’s membership in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at the emergency ministerial meeting at the organization’s headquarters in Jeddah.”

Syria was able to restore its membership in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation after its suspension for 13 years, as the Secretary -General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Hussein Ibrahim Taha expressed the organization’s support for the Arab plan to rebuild the Gaza Strip, appreciating the initiative to include a clause concerning Syria on the agenda of the session.
