“We are shocked by the large number of victims in the western regions of Syria … we call on all parties to seek … for peaceful solutions, national unity, comprehensive political dialogue and transitional justice to overcome the cycle of violence and hatred,” said in a publication of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs on a platform for social communication.
Earlier, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced the imposition of full control of Tartous and Lattakia, and the extension of the imposition of a general curfew in the two cities until Saturday, after confrontations with what they described as “the remnants of the former regime”, which necessitated the bringing of reinforcements and additional forces from the Ministry of Defense, according to the Syrian News Agency “SANA”.
The last escalation began by the remnants of the former regime from the town of Beit Alaa in the countryside of Latakia, where a security element was killed and others were wounded, and after that an ambush occurred in Jabla in which 15 security personnel were killed, then the attacks moved to neighborhoods inside the city of Latakia, where gunmen tried to control security and civil sites.
These are the most violent attacks on the security forces of the transitional government in Syria, since the overthrow of Assad on the eighth of last December.
