Walid Jumblatt after the arrest of the intelligence chief during the Assad era: God is great – the seventh day

The head of the former Progressive Socialist Party and the prominent Lebanese politician, Walid Jumblatt, commented after the accused officially arrested the assassination of his father about 48 years ago, head of the General Intelligence Service during the era of Bashar al -Assad Ibrahim Hawija, saying: “God is great.”

The Syrian security services have arrested Major General Ibrahim Hawija, the former head of public intelligence in Syria, who is accused of overseeing a large number of assassinations during the era of the late Syrian President Hafez al -Assad, most notably the assassination of the Lebanese Druze leader Kamal Jumblatt in 1977. Hawija’s arrest came in the coastal city of Jableh, according to the official Syrian News Agency “SANA” quoting a source in the Syrian Public Security Department.

The name Hawija was also linked to several prominent events, as reports indicated that he was close to the Rifaat Al -Assad, Hafez’s brother, and played a role in suppressing the Hama uprising in 1982, as air intelligence was among the agencies that participated in military operations against the opposition at the time.

The famous Lebanese Druze leader Kamal Jumblatt, the leader of the national movement in Lebanon and the father of the current leader Walid Jumblatt, was assassinated in the midst of severe political tensions between him and the Syrian government led by Hafez al -Assad. Several sources were accused of the Syrian government, specifically raised the Assad, while the fingers of the accusation also referred to Hawija, who was then with the rank of captain in air intelligence.

In a hearing before the International Court of Lebanon on May 7, 2015, Walid Jumblatt reported that the Lebanese investigations in the killing of his father were concluded that the Syrian Intelligence Office in Beirut, which was headed by Hawija, carried out the assassination, as well as accusations against Major General Mohamed El -Khouly.
