The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Greundburg, in his surrounding before the Security Council, called for the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees in Yemen, including the UN employees detained by the Houthis, on the occasion of Ramadan, calling on the conflicting parties to express goodwill by taking humanitarian steps that enhance peace opportunities.
He warned against escalating tension in Yemen; Pointing out that the current situation warns of the return of a comprehensive conflict, which poses a great danger to civilians who are paying the largest price of the conflict that has been going on for a decade.
Grendberg called on all parties to refrain from military escalation and take measures that strengthen calm instead of returning Yemen to the cycle of war, stressing that his office is working tirelessly to exploit any opportunity to collect the parties around the negotiating table, stressing that the solution based on neutrality and fair principles is the only way to end the crisis.

He also stressed the need to address three major challenges to end the conflict, namely: Agreement on a comprehensive ceasefire with a clear executive mechanism, and to reach economic settlements that address the deteriorating situation, and the launch of a comprehensive political process that guarantees the participation of all Yemeni parties to achieve a permanent and sustainable solution.
The UN envoy indicated that he recently had extensive talks with senior officials in the Yemeni government and the regional actors, to urge them to support a peace process led by Yemenis themselves, stressing the importance of unifying efforts to end the war and establish stability.
