“I am deeply concerned about the reports of the destruction of homes and livelihoods in North Darfur,” she added. “Civilians are still paying the price. Reaching Zamzam camp has become almost impossible at a time when people need support more than ever. We need an uncomplicated human arrival to provide life -saving aid,” she added, according to the official website of the United Nations.

Zamzam camp is located about 15 km south of the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, which is now surrounded by the militia forces opposed to the government in Khartoum for several months. The camp was inaugurated in 2004 to house the war displaced in the western country.

Last week, the United Nations World Food Program reported that children have already started death in the camp, and that thousands of people may be exposed to famine in the coming weeks after the program was forced to suspend the distribution of aid due to intense shelling.
In all parts of Sudan, the Sudanese Armed Forces are fighting a battle against its former allies who have turned into opponents, and they are the Rapid Support Forces, since April 15, 2023 when the transition to civil rule collapsed. The Rapid Support Forces now control most of Darfur, but they were besieging the city of El Fasher for months near Zamzam.
On February 11, the militias of the Rapid Support Forces stormed the camp, which led to several days of clashes with government forces and allied forces, according to news reports. On Tuesday evening, in another attack on civilians, which became a feature of the Sudanese conflict, dozens of Muslim civilians were killed in Abu Shouq camp in North Darfur after an attack on a crowded market, attributed to the Rapid Support Forces. This came after another bombing of the camp on Sunday, killing six people.

In a related development, the Security Council expressed its great concern about the signing of the Sudanese opposition forces on a charter seeking to establish a parallel ruling authority in Sudan. The members of the Council said: “The members of the Security Council stressed that such actions may exacerbate the existing conflict in Sudan, the country’s fragmentation, and the exacerbation of the humanitarian situation, which is already very difficult.”
About two million people in 27 sites across Sudan suffer from starvation or their lips. The Sudanese armed forces control the northern and eastern regions, while the militia and its allies control most of the Darfur areas in the west and parts of the south.
