The United Nations warns of the consequences of the prohibition of entering aid in Gaza – the seventh day

The Regional Office of the United Nations Population Fund in the Arab countries expressed its annoyance with the decision of the Israeli government to prevent the entry of aid to Gaza; This would cause more suffering for women and girls who were already forbidden from the basic necessities of survival, threatening their health and affecting their dignity.

The Fund Office indicated – in a statement today / Tuesday / – that over more than 15 months; I ignored the restrictions imposed starkly international humanitarian law; It is not negotiable, and states – unambiguously – that Israel should facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid regardless of whether the ceasefire is steadfast or not.

The Fund considered that the “fragile” ceasefire provided a very necessary rest for women and girls in Gaza, and allowed United Nations agencies, including the United Nations Population Fund, to expand the scope of delivery of life -saving aid to the affected Palestinians throughout the Gaza Strip.

He added that the re -imposition of the siege threatens the opposite of the course of progress at a critical time, as people struggle to stay.
Despite the efforts made by the fund, the needs of women and girls are still enormous, and the war has left an unimaginable destruction, the disease and hunger spread and the health system became ruined.

He pointed out that there are only 19 hospitals out of 35 hospitals that work partially; Which deprives women and girls, including an estimated 50,000 pregnant women, to reach life -saving care.

He added that the temporary reduction of restrictions during the ceasefire; Show what is possible when aid is allowed to reach the needy, stressing that it cannot accept a return to the suffocating restrictions that defined this conflict.

The United Nations Population Fund urgently called on all parties to respect their obligations under international law completely, and to raise the siege and allow humanitarian aid to flow freely to Gaza.

He stressed that permanent peace and continuous assistance is the only way to ensure women and girls get food, water, hygiene supplies and health care that they strongly need; “They have already endured, they are exhausted and desirable – there should be no return back.”
