Yemen as the Vice President

The Republic of Yemen was elected as the Vice -President of the Preparatory Meeting of the 15th United Nations Conference for Crime and Criminal Justice.

This came during West Asia’s preparatory meeting of the 15th United Nations Conference for Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, which concluded his work on Friday, in the Moroccan city of Marrakech.

The Yemeni ambassador and its permanent representative to the United Nations Office in Vienna Haitham Shujauddin – during the meeting, confirmed the Yemeni News Agency “Saba” today – that “the election of Yemen”; Member States appreciate Yemen’s commitment to support the efforts of the international community to prevent crime and achieve criminal justice, in line with the sustainable development plan 2030, especially the 16th goal related to building safe, fair and comprehensive societies.

He said, “Despite the grave challenges resulting from the coup of the Houthi terrorist militia and the security and economic deterioration, the Presidential Command Council and the Yemeni government did not hesitate to implement important institutional and judicial reforms.” Where serious steps were taken to enhance the independence of the judiciary, empower women in judicial institutions, and Yemen is working to update national legislation in line with international obligations and standards.

This meeting comes to prepare for the 15th United Nations Conference for Crime and Criminal Justice, to be held in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, during April 2026.
