United Nations: The British Ian Martin was appointed as head of the Strategic Evaluation of UNRWA – The seventh day

The Secretary -General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, announced the appointment of British Ian Martin, as head of the United Nations Strategic Evaluation Agency for Relief and Works of Palestine Refugees “UNRWA” in the context of his initiative known as (United Nations 80) aimed at modernizing the United Nations and making it more effective in facing the challenges of the current century.

According to the United Nations Media Center, the Secretary -General, Martin, is assigned to conduct a strategic evaluation to review the impact of UNRWA and implement its mandate in light of the current political, financial and security restrictions and other obstacles, consequences and risks for Palestine refugees.

Martin will also define work options by member states and/or the United Nations, and consider the general international states issued by the General Assembly and the Security Council.
Ian Martin has a long experience with the United Nations, and he participated in a number of strategic reviews, the last of which was the head of the independent strategic review of the United Nations Mission in Somalia, and before that he was a member of a high -level independent committee on peace operations.

“Martin” held the position of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Libya and other positions in field missions, including Timur- Lycti, Nepal, Eritrea, Rwanda and Haiti.
