The Churches of Palestine revive “Sabbath Al -Nour” in the presence of priests, bishops and worshipers – the seventh day

Today, Saturday, the Christian churches in Palestine revived the “Saturday of light”, which precedes one of the resurrection (the glorious Easter).

According to the Palestinian News Agency, “Wafa”, the Patriarch of Jerusalem and the rest of the works of Palestine and Jordan for the Greek Orthodox Theovilus III presided over a special prayer in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in occupied Jerusalem, in the presence of a group of bishops and priests, and a number of worshipers who managed to reach the church despite the military restrictions and barriers imposed by the Israeli occupation in the vicinity of the old town.

The festive manifestations and scouting marches that take place annually, in light of the continuous Israeli aggression against our people since October 2023, were absent, in the presence of a member of the Executive Committee of the PLO, Chairman of the Supreme Presidential Committee to follow the affairs of churches Ramzi Khoury, the governor of Ramallah and Al -Bireh Laila Ghannam, the mayor of Ramallah Issa Qassis, the leaders of the security services, a number of legal figures and sponsorships in The city, a group of priests and Christian and Islamic clerics.

Khoury conveyed the greetings of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, to the participants to receive the “holy light”, expressing his hope that the upcoming holidays will come, and the dream of our people has been fulfilled by establishing their independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

In turn, Ghannam emphasized that the Christian Islamic fraternity in Palestine is a real practice, and a living force in the face of the injustice of the occupation, its terrorism and its continuous violations against our people.

In Gaza, which was the aggression and the siege without the arrival of the “Holy Light” from occupied Jerusalem, prayers were held in the Church of St. Barawirius for the Greek Orthodox, and the Church of the Holy Family of the Latin.

The Israeli occupation forces had assaulted a number of citizens at Bab Al -Jadid in occupied Jerusalem, and prevented dozens of families from reaching their homes inside the Old City, as well as the worshipers inside the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, during the reception of the “Holy Light”.

The occupation forces transformed the occupied Jerusalem city into a military barracks and deployed its barriers in the vicinity of the Old City and its alleys leading to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.

According to local sources, the occupation forces impeded the arrival of the worshipers to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and detained them at their checkpoints, including the Apostolic Call in Jerusalem, the representative of the Vatican to the State of Palestine, Bishop Adolfo Tito Yalana.

The Israeli occupation deprived thousands of Christian citizens from the West Bank, from reaching the occupied city of Jerusalem, to participate in the revival of “Saturday of light”, where the Palestinians, Muslims and Christians, are required to obtain special permits to cross from its military barriers surrounding the holy city and reach the places of worship, especially the blessed Al -Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Resurrection.

For the second year in a row, a few pilgrims participate in the prayers of the “Holy Week” and Easter in Jerusalem, due to the repercussions of the extermination war and the continuous Israeli aggression against Palestine since the seventh of October 2023.

The churches also canceled the festive manifestations and all scouting marches, as the feast is limited to the establishment of the Quddis, prayers and religious rituals.
It is noteworthy that the glorious Easter or “Easter” coincides with the date this year according to the eastern and western calendars.
