Iran: Oman will continue the role of mediator in negotiations with Washington, regardless of its place of convening – the seventh day

Kazem Gharib Abadi, Assistant Legal and International Affairs at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on Wednesday that the second round of nuclear negotiations with the United States in Rome will be held, stressing that the Sultanate of Oman will continue to play the role of mediator regardless of the place of the talks.

Abadi stated: “We have not received a new request from the other side to change the place, and the headquarters of the second round of the negotiations is Rome,” according to the Mehr News Agency.

He added: “Until the moment of my talk in the program, we did not receive a new request from the other side to change the place, and the place of the second round of negotiations is Rome.”

“We agreed to change the place of negotiations twice or 3 times, and this issue does not bear great importance,” the international news agency “Tasnim” quoted Abadi as saying: “Whatever the site, the Sultanate of Oman continues to perform the role of the mediator.”

He continued, “We should not waste our time to focus on the place and time of negotiations, as this is not the essential thing.”

Iran and the United States held indirect talks in the Sultanate of Oman last Saturday, with the aim of reaching an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.

Earlier, Wednesday, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said that he “held an important meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqji in Tehran.”

“Cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency is indispensable in order to provide reliable guarantees on the peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program at a time when the need for diplomacy is severe.”

Witkev said on Monday evening that negotiations are mainly related to the enrichment program, and then eventually verification of arms.

He added: “This is not a threat from me, but it is the truth.

This is what he looked at the goal of dismantling the entire Iranian nuclear program, and a return to a similar version of the agreement concluded by US President Barack Obama in 2015, with Iran known as the “comprehensive joint action plan”.

But Yakouf returned on Tuesday, and said, “Trump will not complete any agreement with Iran except an agreement that he finds a contributor to establishing peace and prosperity in the Middle East.”

“Iran must stop and eliminate nuclear enrichment and armament program, and it is necessary for the world to reach a strict, fair and lasting agreement, and this is what President Trump asked me.”

The United States and Iran held a first round of negotiation, on Saturday, in the Sultanate of Oman, to discuss its nuclear program, and it is expected to hold a second round next Saturday.

The US State Department said, in a statement, on Wednesday, that Minister Marco Rubio and White House envoy, Steve Witkeov, will visit Europe in the coming days to hold talks on laying the foundations of the nuclear agreement with Iran.

The ministry added that “Rubio and Wikkov will meet with their European counterparts in the French capital Paris on Wednesday and Thursday.”

A French diplomatic source told “Reuters” that “Rubio will hold talks with his French counterpart Jean -Noel Barrow, on the situation in the Middle East and the Iranian nuclear agreement,” while an informed American source said that “Witkeov will then attend a meeting in Rome with Iranian officials.”

Informed sources reported that Trump held, on Tuesday, a meeting with the senior national security advisers at the White House, in which he focused on the Iranian nuclear program, while Trump explicitly announced his willingness to bomb Iranian nuclear facilities if there is no agreement.
