“The Horn of Africa Women” documents the rape of 8 women and the kidnapping of 25 by rapid support in Sudan – the seventh day

The Strategic Initiative Network for Women in the Horn of Africa, “Siha” (SIHA), revealed that rape and hijacked crimes committed by the Rapid Support militia during its attack on the Zamzam camp for the displaced in North Darfur in Sudan.

The network confirmed that eight women arrived in the city of El Fasher, to escape rapid support, who reported that they were raped inside the camp on April 13, and witnesses confirmed that elements of the Rapid Support Forces kidnapped at least 25 women and girl using military vehicles, according to Sudanese media.

The Rapid Support militia launched a violent attack on the Zamzam camp for the displaced in North Darfur, and the attack killed at least 330 civilians, including 56 women and girls, in addition to the injury of more than 200 women with varying injuries, some of which are dangerous.

The statement revealed that eight children were severely injured, while 20 other children were killed in the attacks targeting Zamzam and Abu Shok.

The network expressed its regret for the killing of two volunteers who were spreading on societal kitchens inside the camp with the support of Siha, considering that targeting civil services workers highlights the size of the threat faced by civilians in Darfur.

The statement stressed that only about two thousand people managed to escape to the city of El Fasher, while hundreds of women, children and the elderly are still trapped inside the camp, in conditions that the statement described as catastrophic, amid lack of protection, food, water and health care.

Siha called at the conclusion of its statement by the United Nations and the African Union to urgently intervene and spread a joint mission to protect civilians in Darfur, as well as securing safe humanitarian corridors for the displaced, and holding those responsible for the serious violations that it described as war crimes and crimes against humanity.
