A soldier was killed by an explosion inside a tunnel in Tire in southern Lebanon – the seventh day

A Lebanese army soldier was killed in the “suspicious object” explosion in the south of the country, which occurred during a unit dismantling “mines and explosive materials in a tunnel” in the Tire area, according to what the authorities announced on Monday.

“During a specialized unit of the army, the army was an engineering survey of a site in the Wadi Al -Azza – Tire, a suspicious body exploded, which led to the martyrdom of an element of the unit and the injury of 3 moderately,” the army said in a brief statement.

For his part, the Lebanese President, Joseph Aoun, expressed in a statement “his pain for the martyrdom of a military and the injury of 3 others during the army’s detachment dismantling mines and explosive materials in a tunnel in the Al -Azza Valley.”

He said, “Once again, the Lebanese army pays the blood of its sons the price of extending the state’s authority over the south and achieving stability in it through the implementation of Resolution 1701.”

The killing of the soldier comes at a time when the Lebanese army has been working since the ceasefire on November 27, the dismantling of Hezbollah’s military structures located south of the Litani River, the region that the agreement stipulated that the party’s withdrawal in exchange for strengthening the army and the United Nations temporary force (UNIFIL) for its deployment near the border with Israel.

Despite the validity of the ceasefire, Israel has kept its forces in 5 “strategic” highlands in southern Lebanon, which is entitled to supervise both sides of the border. And it is still almost daily strikes on targets that it says belongs to the party, especially in southern Lebanon.

Lebanon is calling for the international community to pressure Israel to stop its attacks and complete withdrawal from the south of the country.
