The Secretary -General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has strongly condemned the killing of dozens of civilians in attacks on the city of El Fasher, the Zamzam camp, Abu Shuk and other nearby sites that the displaced houses in the state of North Darfur.

Guterres stressed that the attacks against civilians and random attacks are totally prohibited under international humanitarian law, and stressed the need to respect and protect humanitarian relief employees and medical workers.

“The perpetrators of these attacks must be brought to justice and that there is an urgent need for safe arrival and without obstacles and sustainable to the area, including Zamzam camp. Civilians who want to leave must be allowed to leave safely.”

The Secretary -General urged the parties to immediately stop fighting and take steps towards a comprehensive political process “to place Sudan on the path of peace and stability”. He also renewed his call to the international community to unify its efforts “to end this horrific conflict.”
