Aboul Gheit from the Beirut Development Forum: The global silence of what is happening in Gaza, “A Shao” – The Seventh Day

The Secretary -General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said that the Arab region is going through a dangerous stage in its modern history, as the Israeli aggression on Gaza has transcended the stage of brutality and the impartiality from humanity to madness saturated with biblical delusions and a reprehensible racist rhetoric, and the goal is clear and it is the eradication of the Palestinian issue from existence, and removing the Palestinians from geography in preparation for the annexation of the land without its inhabitants and all this happens and the world is silent in silence that can only be described as shame. By paving the way for the legally rejected displacement scenario, morally and humanly.

He added, in his speech before the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development in Beirut, that the Palestinian issue alone is not the only source of anxiety, even if it has the first place in hearts and minds, the region is filled with foci of conflict and instability and it faces worsening and complex challenges ranging from climate change and water scarcity, to armed conflicts and refugee crises with their humanitarian and economic consequences, and there is no doubt all these factors have had a negative impact It is clear that governments are able to achieve the desired balance between economic growth, preserving natural resources, and ensuring social justice.

But despite all of this, Aboul Gheit believes that there is a solid Arab will to turn challenges into opportunities, and to perpetuate the concept of “not to leave anyone behind the knees” as a basis for joint work.

“We have made important strides in the process of sustainable development, as many Arab countries have launched innovative national strategies to enhance renewable energy, improve the quality of education, empower women, support the green economy, however, the gaps remain, especially in the areas of poverty reduction, ensuring food security, and protecting fragile environmental systems.”

And he considered that effective solutions are built through regional cooperation. The League of Arab States is working hand in hand with the United Nations organizations, especially the ESCWA, to enhance the integration between national policies and the regional framework, and to coordinate Arab positions in international forums, stressing that investing in joint infrastructure, encouraging technological innovation, and empowering young people, are indispensable pillars of flexible Arab economies, and capable of steadfastness in particular The atmosphere of economic turmoil and the lack of certainty witnessed by the global economy today.

He pointed to the document issued by the Future 2024 summit, which is a collective attempt to address global and local challenges related to sustainable development, human rights, climate change, and economic gaps

Through this comprehensive framework, the document seeks, according to Aboul Gheit, to enhance international cooperation and set a road map for the future that guarantees the achievement of sustainable development goals … We have a good opportunity to build on the axes of Vision 2045 for the Arab region to match what was stated in this document.
