UN official: 60,000 children in Gaza under five suffer from malnutrition – the seventh day

The United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East peace process and the humanitarian and reconstruction coordinator in Gaza, Sigrid Kag, said more than 60,000 children under the age of five in the Gaza Strip suffer from malnutrition, the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East and Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator in Gaza Sigrid Kag said.

Kag added, in an interview on the sidelines of her participation in the fourth edition of the “Antalya Diplomatic Forum” held in southern Turkey, that the humanitarian aid sent by the United Nations to Gaza during the period of the ceasefire agreement reached its beneficiaries without problems, but “the flow of aid was continuing within the framework of the ceasefire agreement, but since the second half of March was not allowed to enter aid.”

Kag indicated that the humanitarian workers are facing a shortage of equipment to carry out their operations, and that the fuel needed to operate hospitals has run out, which led to the disruption of the distribution of humanitarian aid.

She added: “We know that more than 60,000 children in Gaza under the age of five suffer from malnutrition. Every number in these statistics is a human being and life, and a struggle for survival.”

She stressed that international law obliges Israel to allow the arrival of humanitarian aid to Gaza, stressing the need to deliver this aid urgently, and said that the Israeli attacks on Gaza not only affect civilians, but also “terrifying” also for workers in the field of humanitarian relief, the majority of them are Palestinian civilians.
