World Health Representative: The situation in Gaza is catastrophic and requires urgent action – the seventh day

Dr. Naama Saeed Abed, representative of the World Health Organization in Egypt, said that the health situation in the Gaza Strip is catastrophic by all accounts, in light of the almost complete collapse of health facilities, targeting medical facilities, and the absence of the lowest ingredients for health care.

Abed added, during an intervention on the program “From Egypt”, and presented by the journalist Amr Khalil, on the “Cairo News” channel, that “the International Day of Health”, which began to celebrate on April 7 and continues over a year under the slogan “a healthy beginning and a future future”, cannot in any way apply to the tragic situation that the Palestinians live in the Gaza Strip, explaining that what is happening in the sector “is completely far from hope, but rather reflects a collapse Completely for the health system. “

He pointed out that the numbers announced so far indicate that more than 50,532 martyrs have fallen, and more than 100,000 wounded, in light of the poor ability to provide medical care as a result of the targeting of hospitals and their departure from service, explaining that a large percentage of the wounded do not receive the necessary treatment, which leads to either death or permanent disability.

He revealed that more than 50% of the victims are women, children and the elderly, stressing that this is “a painful and healthy matter”, and requires urgent international action.

He explained that the sector is currently suffering from a severe shortage of medical and food supplies, with a complete closure of the crossings and the prevention of the entry of humanitarian aid, saying: “Even the remaining stocks inside Gaza is barely sufficient for a week or two, and the bakeries stopped completely, which means the absence of bread from the Gazans table.”

The representative of the World Health Organization stressed that “health does not only mean the presence of hospitals and medicines, but also includes the general health environment, from clean water, sanitation, and proper nutrition,” explaining that the deterioration of these elements leads to the outbreak of malnutrition, and the high death rates as a result of chronic and cancerous diseases that no longer find appropriate care.
