Arab League: “World Health Day” is an opportunity to join efforts to ensure a healthy and sustainable life for all – the seventh day

Ambassador, Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazala, Assistant Secretary -General, Head of the Social Affairs Sector, said that celebrating World Health Day is an important opportunity to raise awareness of global health issues, and a renewed commitment to promoting public health through combining all efforts to ensure a healthy and sustainable life for all.

Ambassador, Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, added- in a press statement, today, Monday, that the celebration of World Health Day coincides with the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization, noting that the title of the World Health Organization celebration for this year is a “health start for a promising future”, and aims to urge governments and health society to intensify efforts to end the deaths of mothers and births that can be prevented, and give priority to women’s health and their long-term well-being.

According to international statistics, there are more than 300,000 deaths for women during pregnancy and childbirth every year, and more than two million deaths for children in the first month.

Ambassador, Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, stressed that the focus on mothers and children’s health is an opportunity for everyone to raise awareness of healthy health practices and cooperate to invest in the health of mothers and births, especially since global statistics are worrying.

She pointed to the importance of intensifying joint work in order to end the deaths that can be avoided between mothers and births, especially in areas with limited services, and the need for effective and sustainable response to improve the quality of health care during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum.

She noted the importance of improving health care systems, which is what the Arab Health Ministers Council seeks, and to enhance health awareness of mothers.

She called for the importance of investment and increasing financing for health services provided to the health of mothers and children; To ensure that mothers and newborns are reduced, and to provide the best training and rehabilitation ways to medical cadres to ensure the provision of integrated health care services for mothers and newborns.

Abu Ghazaleh explained that the issue of maternal and children’s health is a permanent item on the agenda of the Arab Health Council of Ministers, and that the Council has taken its regular session (51) that was held February 2019, its decision No. (14), which included “the launch of the Arab multi-sectors strategy for the health of mothers, children and teenagers 2019-2030”, which was prepared in cooperation and coordination between the General Secretariat and the United Nations Population Fund, which is one of its most important goals to improve the health of mothers Children, exchange of experiences between Arab countries in reducing the percentage of mothers of mothers and children, and the transfer of successful experiences and experiences of Arab countries in reducing the percentage of mothers of mothers and children.
