Associated Press: Violations of Israeli prisons causes the killing of a Palestinian teenager with hunger – the seventh day

A medical report, reported by the American Associated Press news agency on Sunday, revealed that the hunger was the cause of the death of the Palestinian teenager Walid Ahmed in the Israeli “Megado” prison last month.

Israeli doctor Daniel Solomon, who supervised the dissection of Ahmed’s body, 17, suggested that he had suffered from severe malnutrition and signs of severe inflammation of the colon as well as scabies.

The Associated Press quoted the report as saying that Ahmed was suffering from an acute weight loss and a muscular wasting, and he also complained about the prison shortage since last December, according to the reports of the medical clinic in prison.

Palestinian officials, quoting eyewitnesses from other prisoners, reported that Ahmed died last month after his collapse in Megadu prison and his head.

Ahmed is the youngest Palestinian prisoner who has been killed in an Israeli prison since the start of the Gaza war, according to the Doctors for Human Rights Organization in Israel, which documented the deaths of Palestinian prisoners.

His family said that he was arrested from his home in the occupied West Bank during a raid in the month of September on the pretext that he had threw stones at Israeli soldiers, and he was detained in prison for six months without charges.

(Associated Press) stated that human rights groups have documented widespread violations in Israeli detention centers, which are holding thousands of Palestinians who were arrested after the October 7, 2023 attacks and the start of the war in the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian Authority says: Israel is holding the bodies of 72 Palestinian prisoners who died in Israeli prisons, including 61 prisoners who died since the beginning of the war, and Israel often holds the bodies of the Palestinian dead, citing security reasons or to achieve political gains.

Former detainees said in statements to the American Agency that the situation in Israeli prisons has deteriorated since the beginning of the war … referring to violence, beatings, extreme crowding, lack of medical care, scabies, and poor health conditions.

The head of the prisoners and detainees at the Doctors for Human Rights Organization in Israel, Naji Abbas, stated that Meglaso, a very guarded prison, is being held in which many Palestinian detainees are being held without a charge that is considered one of the harshest prisons.

Walid Ahmed’s lawyer, Firas Al -Jabrini, stated that the Israeli authorities refused his requests to visit his client in prison, but three prisoners detained there told him that Ahmed suffered from severe diarrhea, vomiting, headache and dizziness before his death … stressing that they suspect that the cause of death is polluted water, in addition to the cheese and yogurt that the prison guards brought in the morning, which remained abroad throughout the day while the prisoners were fasting.

“Ahmed has suffered from hunger that led to severe malnutrition in addition to the unenviable colitis that caused dryness and disturbances in the levels of salt in his blood, which may lead to disorders in the heart rate and death.”

She added that the results indicate an aggravated medical negligence due to Ahmed’s inability to fight the disease or infection; Because of the malnutrition and weakness he was suffering from.

Ahmed’s father stated that the family has not yet received a death certificate from Israel, and they hope that Solomon’s report will help restore his son’s body to the homeland … saying: “We will demand the burial of our son’s body, what is happening in Israeli prisons is a real tragedy as they have no value for life.”
