An earthquake in global trade with the entry of Trump customs duties into effect – the seventh day

American customs began collecting unilateral customs duties imposed by President Donald Trump by 10% on all imports from many countries today, Saturday, and higher fees are scheduled to start on goods than 57 larger commercial partners next week.

The preliminary “basic” customs duties of 10% entered into force in the American ports, airports and customs warehouses at 12:01 am US time (04:01 GMT), marking Trump’s complete rejection of the post -World War II system, which depends on mutual agreed fees.

“This is the biggest commercial procedure in our lives,” said Kelly Ann Show, a commercial lawyer at Hogan Luvils and former White House commercial advisor during Trump’s first state.

Shaw said in an event for the Brookings Foundation on Thursday that it expects customs duties to develop over time with countries seeking to negotiate lower prices, noting that “this is a tremendous matter. It is a fundamental and important transformation in the way we deal with each country on the face of the earth.”

Trump’s announcement of the customs duties on Wednesday shook the global stock markets, a violent shock, as the Standard & Poor’s 500 firms lost $ 5 trillion of their market value at the closure of Friday, a record decrease in two days. Oil and commodity prices fell, while investors resorted to safe government bonds.

A bulletin released by the American Customs and Border Protection Authority indicates the shipping companies that there is no period of allowing shipments on water at midnight on Saturday.

But the agency’s bulletin granted a 51 -day allowance for shipments loaded on ships or aircraft heading to the United States before 12:01 am US time on Saturday. These shipments must arrive at 12:01 am EST on May 27 to avoid 10%fees.

In the same hour on Wednesday, the “mutual” customs fees imposed by Trump, which ranges between 11% and 50%, will enter into force. Customs duties will be imposed by 20% on the imports of the European Union, while customs duties will be imposed by 34% on Chinese goods, bringing the total new fees that Trump imposed on China reached 54%.
