UNRWA: The death of 408 workers in the human field in Gaza – the seventh day

The Commissioner -General of the Relief and Works Agency for the Palestinian Refugees “UNRWA”, Philip Lazarini, has expressed deep sadness to confirm the death of other employees in the agency and 8 from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and the first paramedics.

Lazarini stressed, in a statement reported by the Palestinian News Agency, the need to protect civilians at all times and ensure accountability for violations, and said, “This raises the number of relief workers martyrs in Gaza since the war began about a year and a half ago to 408, including 280 of the relief and employment of Palestine refugees” UNRWA “.

“The body of our colleague, who was martyred in Rafah with relief workers from the Palestinian Red Crescent, was all found in shallow graves, a grave violation of human dignity, that they were relief workers, whether on the front lines or in their homes with their families, civilians should be protected at all times.”

He stressed that targeting the respondents, journalists, or relief workers, or endangering them, is a flagrant and great ignorance of international law.

The director of the UNRWA in the West Bank, Roland Friedrich, also condemned the burning attack that has again targeted UNRWA headquarters in East Jerusalem, “describing it as” the condemned work that comes in the context of a systematic incitement against the agency for months. “

“UN employees were forced to evacuate the headquarters in January 2025, with the start of the implementation of Israeli laws aimed at the work of UNRWA, in light of the repeated attacks and threats.”

He stressed that this headquarters is still affiliated with the United Nations, and is subject to protection under international law. He said, “Israel, as a member of the United Nations and a party in the United Nations Privileges and Foreign Agreements, is to adhere to the protection of the international organization’s employees and facilities at all times,” stressing that these headquarters provide vital humanitarian services to the most vulnerable Palestine refugees, and it should not be a target of assault.
