Germany invites the President of South Sudan and his deputy, Riek Machar, to calm the situation and resume the dialogue – the seventh day

Germany called for calming the situation in southern Sudan after the first vice -president, Riek Machar, was under house arrest, warning that such measures undermine the efforts to achieve stability in the country, stressing that the arrest of Riek Machar is not a way to achieve peace in South Sudan.

The German Foreign Ministry said in a statement: “The president’s vice -president was not a way to achieve peace in southern Sudan,” and urged the southern Sudanese President Salva Kiir to release Machar and adhere to the 2018 peace agreement that ended a five -year civil war.

The arrest of Machar last Wednesday sparked a rapid international concern, as neighboring Kenya dispatched former Prime Minister Rila Odinga to mediate.

For his part, the Machar party stated that the detention has already canceled the 2018 active agreement to resolve the conflict in southern Sudan, according to local media.

For its part, the German Foreign Ministry wrote on its account on the X website: “The two parties must calm the conditions, resume dialogue and implement the peace agreement for the year 2018, that their reckless policies prevent stability and prosperity for the people of South Sudan.”

For his part, the government spokesman, Minister of Information, Michael McCoy, said in a statement last Friday that Riek Machar and members of the SPLM, and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in the opposition, the detainees will be subject to investigation, and will be submitted to justice accordingly.

Makkawi Machar was accused of contacting his supporters for inciting them to rebel against the government with the aim of destabilizing peace and preventing the holding of elections and the return of South Sudan to war, according to his speech.
