Somalia receives large military aid from the African Union – the seventh day

Somalia announced that it would receive a shipment of major military aid from the African Union, to support its efforts to enhance security in the country.

According to the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Thursday, the Republic received a large shipment of military equipment from the African Union, including armored vehicles, helmets and jackets for soldiers, armored soldiers, fuel tankers, water, engines, medical supplies and other basic resources, with the aim of enhancing the country’s security infrastructure and contributing to regional stability.

She pointed out that the Somali Ambassador to Ethiopia and the permanent representative of the African Union Abdullah Mohamed Warfa took over the equipment during a delivery event with the African Union’s continental logistics base team in Dalla in Cameroon.

Somalia expressed its deep appreciation to the African Union for its continuous support that enhances regional security, supports institutional development and enhances the efforts to combat terrorism.

The Somali army is struggling to eliminate terrorism with African and international support, faces the youth militia linked to al -Qaeda and ISIS, and has recently achieved several successes.

Yesterday, the army announced its implementation in cooperation with the US military leadership in Africa (AFRICOM), a qualitative military operation targeting terrorist elements of ISIS in the Gulis Heights in the Berri region of Puntland.

According to the official news agency, the operation resulted in the killing of a number of members of the organization without losses among civilians, while the limitations of the losses incurred by the enemy are still ongoing.

The air strikes came as part of a wide military campaign led by the Dervish forces in Bontland, targeting the dens of terrorists in the mountainous “Elimmcad” area, as part of the ongoing efforts to eliminate the country’s extremist militias.

In another operation, the ninth battalion of the army made progress in its battles against the youth militias in the “Apoglidai” area, which is 20 km east of the city of Hoder, in Bakul Governorate.
