The United Nations welcomes the Black Sea talks in Saudi Arabia – the seventh day

On Wednesday, the United Nations welcomed the recent diplomatic talks that included Russia, Ukraine and the United States in Saudi Arabia, noting that reaching an agreement on freedom of navigation and security in the Black Sea is considered a decisive step for global food security.

Stephen Dujarric, a spokesman for Secretary -General Antonio Guterres, said in a statement – the Secretary -General’s office is still available to support all efforts towards a permanent peace in Ukraine, according to the official website of the United Nations.

Dujarric said: “A agreement on freedom of navigation in the Black Sea to ensure the protection of civil ships and the ports infrastructure will be a decisive contribution to global food security and supply chains, which reflects the importance of trade routes from both Ukraine and the Russian Federation to global markets.”

He added: “The Secretary -General repeats his hope that these efforts will pave the way for a permanent ceasefire and contribute to achieving a fair, comprehensive and permanent peace in Ukraine, according to the Charter of the United Nations, international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, with full respect for the independence of Ukraine, its sovereignty and regional safety.”

On the other hand, a senior United Nations official warned ambassadors of the Security Council that the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine is continuing to exacerbate, as nearly 13 million people need help, but the money is decreasing.

Joyce Meswa, the United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator, added that the decisive relief programs are threatened by recent financing discounts.

She explained that the deficiency in financing began to lead to severe consequences, especially for women and girls, and United Nations agencies are afraid that at least 640,000 people will lose protection against gender -based violence, social psychological support, and safe spaces.

“The recent financing discounts have rearranged the priorities of response efforts in Ukraine, which will be announced in the coming weeks. Continuous financial support will be a key to maintaining operations.”

She added that the humanitarian response plan for Ukraine for the year 2025, which aims to reach six million people in need, was funded by only 17% of a total of $ 2.6 billion allocated to it.

She also shed light on the impact of fighting on civilians. She said: “Since March 1, no day has passed without civilians being attacked.” She pointed out that civilian casualties were injured and injured, as well as the damage to the infrastructure throughout the north, central, east and southern Ukraine.

“In societies on the front lines, civilians face continuous bombing and face impossible choices: either fleeing in dangerous circumstances, leaving behind everything they have, or staying with the risk of injury or death and lack of access to basic services.”

At the end of its surgery, the equality of three major demands for the international community has set: adherence to the international humanitarian law for civil protection, continuous financing to maintain relief processes, and renew efforts to push towards a permanent end of the conflict.

She noted that the war must end, and that human needs must be at the heart of discussions on stopping the fighting or long -term agreements.
