The United Nations expresses its concern about the continued attacks on civilians in Sudan – the seventh day

On Tuesday, the United Nations expressed concern about the continued attacks on civilians in Sudan, announcing that the opening of a new center for the reception of Sudanese refugees in Chad.

UN spokesman Stefan Dujarric said during a press conference today that the United Nations is very concerned about the continued attacks on civilians “inside Sudan.

He added: “Our humanitarian colleagues are very concerned about the escalation of attacks on the populated areas in Khartoum.”

For his part, the residing representative of the United Nations Agency in Chad Francis James said that a new center for women is scheduled to open in Adri next month, with the aim of strengthening ties between host and refugee societies.

He said: “The refugees come, crawling literally and stumbling across the border, and we need social protection … but we also need to give them hope,” noting that other United Nations projects include supporting women and girls to return to schools.

He explained that the importance of building classrooms near refugee camps lies in the ability of schoolchildren to avoid walking “kilometers across dangerous areas” where they may be attacked.

The United Nations report highlighted that its own teams on the Sudanese-Chadian border reported a humanitarian emergency, with the expectation that the number of fleeing to East Chad is a million people by the end of the year, as the number of Sudanese refugees in Chad today reached 970 thousand refugees, as a result of nearly two years of continuous fighting in Sudan.
