The Chairman of the African Union Commission arrives on Somalia on an official visit – the seventh day

Mahmoud Ali Youssef, head of the African Union Commission, arrived in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, on an official visit, his first after assuming his post, after his election at the African Union summit for heads of state and governments last February.

He was received by Deputy Prime Minister, Saleh Ahmed Jameh, at Adam Uday International Airport, and during his visit, Youssef will hold meetings with the President of Somalia Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Berri, to discuss important issues related to Somalia and the African Union, according to the news agency.

Mahmoud Ali Youssef was elected head of the African Union in the beginning of February 2025, after a strong competition at the African Summit, and his victory came based on his strong support from the member states of the Union, thanks to his diplomatic experience and his ability to deal with complex African issues.

His victory is an important step towards strengthening cooperation between African countries, deepening efforts to resolve conflicts and enhance security on the continent.
