The UN peace coordinator: We call for the resumption of negotiation for the ceasefire in Gaza – the seventh day

Sigrid Kaj, the chief humanitarian coordinator in Gaza and the Acting Coordinator of the Middle East peace process, has expressed concern about the resumption of “hostilities” in the Gaza Strip; Which killed hundreds, most of them women and children.

“We confirm the invitation of the Secretary -General of the United Nations to resume serious negotiations for the ceasefire and the arrival of aid to Gaza without obstacle,” Kag said – in her speech today, Friday, during the International Security Council meeting on Palestine -.

She added that the Israeli settlement activity continued at a high rate in the occupied West Bank, where the Israeli authorities agreed to build approximately 10,000 housing units in settlements in the West Bank, including 4920 in East Jerusalem.

She added that the demolition and confiscation of the places owned by the Palestinians continued and at an accelerated pace in the West Bank and Jerusalem, noting that the Palestinians did not obtain construction licenses, as 460 buildings were demolished; This led to the displacement of 576 people, calling for immediate steps to prevent all violence and destruction against civilians.

She pointed out that from October 7, 2023 until the ceasefire agreement entered into force on January 19, 2025, “hostilities” continued in Gaza; This caused a large number of victims between the Palestinians and continued to displace civilians and destroy widespread civil infrastructure.

She praised the efforts of Egypt, Qatar and the United States in the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza, condemning the state of mass death imposed on the Palestinian people, pointing out that preventing Israel to introduce aid to Gaza causes a humanitarian crisis, and that Israel’s closure of the crossings hinders the evacuation of patients for treatment.

She said, “The Secretary -General of the United Nations condemns in any way of ethnic cleansing and condemns the decision of Israel to stop the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza and is concerned about the attacks of Israeli settlers against the Palestinians.”

“We will continue our support for the efforts to reach a two -state solution to end the war in Palestine,” she added, noting that the Secretary -General of the United Nations welcomes the Arab plan to rebuild Gaza and appreciate the efforts of regional partners.
