The head of the Jordanian notables: The West pursues a policy of double standards in freedoms issues – the seventh day

The Speaker of the Jordanian Senate Faisal Al -Fayez said, “The reality of the situation confirms that the West has become a policy of duplication of standards and a measure of double standards, in issues of public freedoms and democratic practice.”

Al -Fayez indicated in a speech today, Thursday, at a conference held by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, in the French city of Strasbourg, that democracy is a basic value that guarantees the rights and freedoms of citizens, and enhances equality and social justice among all, which makes its protection a participatory responsibility.

Al -Fayez stressed that strengthening and preserving democracy requires the availability of political and security climate, as one of the most important elements of its protection and perpetuation in societies, and that its development needs to abandon the policy of double standards, and to perpetuate efforts to protect international institutions and organizations, which protect justice, human rights, public freedoms, not tampering with them, weakening them and overcoming their optimal values.

He pointed out that the future of democracy depends on the ability of parliamentary institutions, international organizations concerned with public freedoms, human rights and conflicts, by working to enhance the cultural and civilizational shares between peoples, and the application of international legitimacy resolutions related to the right of peoples to freedom and independence, and by working to reject sectarianism and racism and respect for minorities and their rights, in addition to the importance of setting clear policies and effective legal legislation, which guarantees freedom Expression, publishing, transparency and integrity, and the existence of legal legislation that protects the independence of the judiciary and fights corruption in its various forms.

The President of the Jordanian Senate added that “strengthening and developing democratic culture, and introducing the principles of democratic and political rights and duties, requires its consecration in the curricula of school and university students,” stressing that “democracy is not a luxury but rather a tool for societies, which seeks to live in dignity, peace and freedom.”
Al -Fayez called on the various concerned authorities, whether they are governments or parliaments, the necessity of serious seeking to develop realistic legislation and work programs, drawing a better future for democracy to remain a beacon in this troubled world that does not extinguish its light of evil forces.

He also pointed to the processes of repression, violence, and the threat of deprivation and dismissal, to which students are exposed in many Western universities, and attempts to curb free votes that call for condemnation and rejection of genocide and the massacres of war, committed by the Israeli occupation state against the Palestinian people, in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.

Al -Fayez stressed that these practices are incompatible with the simplest democratic rules and freedom of expression, which at the same time represents a true reality of the policy of double standards and a double standard towards the issues of fair peoples.

He indicated that the conference of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is held in exceptional circumstances and a highly sensitive historical moment in the world, as democracy and its future have become a difficult test due to the conflicts and wars we witness, and the increasing challenges facing democratic systems, due to regional conflicts, international tensions, political polarization, the failure of dialogue of civilizations, the decline in moral standards, human values, and the tendency of societies And its sins towards extremism and violence.

Al -Fayez said that it is unfortunate that we are witnessing the United Nations deficit and international parliamentary, human rights and humanitarian organizations, and their inability to resolve many of these conflicts and disputes.

He went on to say: For example, the Palestinian people have been suffering from the Israeli occupation for nearly 8 decades, and today, since the 7th of October of 2023, the most heinous aggression by the Israeli occupation state, in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, has been exposed to tens of thousands of martyrs and the injured and most of them children and women.

Al -Fayez added, “The social media, which is supposed to contribute to promoting freedom of publication, expression and public freedoms, but unfortunately it contributed to increasing the challenges facing democracy, so it worked to enhance the hate speech, the spread of violence, intolerance and religious and ethnic conflicts, and adopted the campaigns of misinformation that aims to manipulate the elections and their results, which led to the deepening of social divisions, and a majority Peoples tend to extremism.

He explained that the weak confidence in democratic institutions, the lack of equality between the North and South countries, and the breadth of the economic and technological gap between them, led to social unrest in many countries, indicating that all these factors have developed democracy and its future under a difficult test.

For two days, the conference discusses many issues related to democracy and its protection, ensuring freedom of expression and publishing, and issues related to violence, in light of the political and security conflicts witnessed by the world, according to what was stated in a statement of the Jordanian Senate today.
