Members of the Board of Directors of the International Labor Organization, which held its 35th session, on Wednesday in Geneva, chose the Kingdom of Morocco unanimously to organize the sixth World Conference to eliminate the employment of children, to be held in 2026.

It is expected that the conference will be held during the second half of 2026, to determine the “collective action” that must be taken in the face of not achieving the goal 8.7 of the sustainable development goals, related to eliminating children’s work by 2025. It will also contribute to developing the planned processes for the period after 2030.
The conference will also be an opportunity to assess the implementation of the recommendations of the Second World Summit on Social Development, to be held next November in Doha, while the work of children and its structural causes.
The Sixth World Conference will monitor the progress and problems raised since the previous session held in Derban 2022, and will also encourage “peer learning”, exchange information, cooperation, and policy integration within and between member states, between the regional and international levels.
This conference would enhance the commitment of the parties concerned with intensifying the efforts to combat children’s work and enhance the harmony of the measures taken at the national, regional and global levels.

The Sixth World Conference will also constitute an opportunity to highlight the ties between eliminating children’s employment, principles and other basic rights at work, giving a new momentum to efforts to support these principles and basic rights at work, and encouraging new obligations in this regard through the global alliance for social justice.
