China has expressed its “great concern” over the resumption of widespread Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip, and called for a return to the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
“China is very concerned about the current situation between Israel and Palestine,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning, according to the Chinese Global Times newspaper.
She added that (Beijing) hopes that all parties will work seriously to enhance the effective implementation of the ceasefire agreement, and to avoid taking any action that would lead to an escalation of the situation and the prevention of a large -scale humanitarian catastrophe.
