Germany pledges an additional 300 million euros to support Syria – the seventh day

German Foreign Minister Analina Perbuk announced today, Monday, that Berlin will provide new assistance to Syria worth 300 million euros through the United Nations and selected organizations.

The German Foreign Minister said, in a statement today, Monday, before the start of the donor conference in Brussels- that more than half of the funds provided will go to the Syrian people, and funding will be allocated to provide food, health services and shelters, as well as protection measures for weak groups in particular.

She added that the Syrian refugees and host societies in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey will also receive support, and renewed the confirmation of the need for a comprehensive political process to ensure a peaceful future for Syria.

“We Europeans stand together for the Syrian people, and for free and peaceful Syria,” the minister added. The Syrian government also called for an investigation into the killing of hundreds of civilians in the villages of the Syrian coast, and to hold those responsible for their killing accountable.

The European Union will hold a conference in Brussels, today, under the title “Standing with Syria: Meeting the Successful Transition needs”, to discuss the future of Syria after changing power there, and the conference aims to mobilize international support for a peaceful transition.

Those who are visible to the conference are expected that the new Syrian authorities will receive support in the conference, and that, in addition to the participation of high -ranking officials from Syria and Europe, it is also expected that representatives from the United States, the United Nations, and the countries adjacent to Syria.

The conference hosted by the European Union aims to “mobilize international support for a comprehensive peaceful transfer.” This will be the first time that the conference has been held since the collapse of Bashar al -Assad’s regime last December. Since 2017, the European Union has been hosting the conference in Brussels.
