According to an official decree published in the Official Gazette “Kuwait Today”, Article 26 of the Personal Status Law was amended to “prevent the documentation of the marriage contract or its approval for those who were not 18 years old at the time of documentation.”

According to the amendment, “It is prohibited to document marriage unless the spouses reach eighteen years, based on the constitution of the State of Kuwait, which confirms the protection of the family, motherhood and childhood, and in line with the provisions of Islamic Sharia.”
According to the memo, it takes into account Kuwait’s international obligations, especially the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which knows the child who does not exceed 18, and obliges states to protect him from early marriage, and the agreement to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women that guarantee free and complete consent of the couple and encourage the determination of a lower age for marriage. “
