The United Nations warns of the increasing intensity of humanitarian crises in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank – the seventh day

UN spokesman Stefan Dujarric on Friday warned of the increasing intensity of humanitarian crises in the Gaza Strip in light of the continuous closure of all border crossings.

Dujarric said – in a press statement – that the United Nations Emergency Relief Agency (the World Food Program) was unable to transfer any assistance to the sector due to the closure of the border crossings that entered its 12th day, as its closure led to a sharp increase in food prices, with the high costs of basic foodstuffs such as flour and sugar, which limited the possibility of obtaining them.

“There is also a shortage of fuel, which affects the movement of vehicles throughout Gaza and slows down the work of the initial response teams,” the UN spokesman added.

He pointed out that the Office of Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stressed that the oxygen supplies and electricity generators are very necessary to maintain the operations of life in Gaza hospitals, and he said: “At least twenty additional generators are needed for health centers, as the generators currently used need to be maintained and spare parts.”

Meanwhile, the situation in the West Bank continues to deteriorate, as the office (OCHA) recorded an escalation of settlers in parts of the West Bank; This caused injuries and damage to property and exposing societies at risk of displacement.

The office also noted a sharp increase in the demolition of buildings owned by Palestinians in the West Bank during the past week and half, as the number of buildings that were demolished during the first ten days of Ramadan this year exceeded the total number of buildings that were demolished throughout Ramadan last year 2024.

Dujarric added that the Israeli operations intensified in the city of Jenin – since last Monday, where more than 500 people were displaced from three neighborhoods in the eastern part of the city.
