The “Friday” mosque is one of the most prominent Islamic landmarks in Medina, as its name is related to the first Friday prayer that the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, held after his migration from Mecca to Medina; Where the mosque has a special place due to its historical dimensions, as well as the developments it witnessed throughout the ages, which makes it a witness to the stages of the development of Islamic architecture in Medina.

The mosque is located in the Quba area, about 900 meters from the Quba Mosque from the northern side. It is also known as the Wadi Mosque or the Atka Mosque in relation to the site in which the mosque is built.

Historical sources indicate that the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, when he immigrated from Mecca to Medina, stayed in a four -day Quba, then he left it on Friday, heading towards Medina, and when it was time for Friday prayers, time he realized it in the homes of Bani Salem bin Auf, and he held the prayer with them, and this was the first Friday prayer to be held after the migration, hence the name of the mosque.

He remained the same until the middle of the fourteenth century AH, where Mr. Hassan Al -Sharbatly renewed it.

The mosque was before the last expansion built over a small hill, 8 meters long, width 5, 4 meters, and a height of 5.5 meters, and it has one dome built with red bricks and in the north of 8 meters length, and its width is 6 meters.

The Saudi Ministry of Endowments has rebuilt and expanded according to a beautiful engineering design, and its area has multiplied several times.

In the year 1409 AH, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Fahd bin Abdulaziz, ordered the demolition of the old mosque, its construction, its expansion, and the provision of the necessary facilities and services (as a residence for the imam, the muezzin, a library, a school for memorizing the Holy Quran, and a prayer hall for water cycles).

In the year 1412 AH, the mosque was opened, and it became six hundred and fifty worshipers after it did not accommodate more than seventy worshipers, and the mosque has a highly wonderful beacon and a major dome that mediates the prayer square in addition to four small domes.
