Guterres: All forms of violence in Syria – the seventh day must be stopped

United Nations Secretary -General Antonio Guterres has confirmed that all forms of violence in Syria should stop, none of all justifying the killing of civilians.

Guterres said – in a message, about Syria, published by the United Nations official website – that it is worrying that the bright future that the Syrians deserved is at stake after receiving reports in recent days stating the killing of civilians, stressing the need to conduct independent, fair and credible investigations in the violations that occurred and hold the officials be held accountable.

He explained that the interim authorities have repeatedly adhered to building a new Syria based on comprehensive and reliable foundations for all Syrians, and it is time to work now, as there is an urgent need for bold and decisive measures to ensure that every Syrian lives safely, dignified and without fear.

Guterres also stressed that the United Nations is ready to work alongside the Syrian people and support a comprehensive political transition that guarantees accountability, enhances national recovery, and establishes the foundations of Syria’s long -term recovery and its integration into the international community.
