The Syrian News Agency “SANA” announced Syria’s full membership in the Islamic Education, Science and Culture Organization.
This announcement came during a virtual meeting that brought together the Director General of Antiquities and Museums in Syria, Dr. Anas Haji Zaidan, with representatives of the ISESCO, including Dr. Weibir Naduro, Director of the Heritage Center in the Islamic World, and experts Bilal Al -Shabi and Muhammad Al -Absi, in addition to the engineer Lina Qatifan, Director of World Heritage Sites at the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums.

Bilal Al -Shabi, a program expert in ISESCO, stressed the importance of Syria’s return to the organization, noting that this step reflects the organization’s commitment to supporting member states in protecting its cultural and scientific heritage.
Al -Shabi pointed out that a technical mission will soon visit Syria to see a number of archaeological sites and Syrian museums to develop a joint action plan aimed at supporting efforts to preserve the Syrian cultural heritage, to assess the technical and logistical needs of the Directorate of Antiquities and Museums, with the aim of enhancing its capabilities in the areas of preserving heritage and museum management.
For his part, Dr. Anas Hajj Zaidan welcomed this step, considering that the return of Syria to the ISESCO will open new horizons for cooperation in the areas of heritage and culture, and that the visit of the technical mission will contribute to supporting the efforts made to preserve the Syrian heritage, especially in light of the challenges facing the country as a result of the war.
