Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan: Reducing financing for Khartoum is a catastrophic blow – the seventh day

The residing coordinator of the United Nations and the Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Clemmanin Nkwata Salami, said that the sudden discounts of financing by senior government donors constitute a catastrophic blow to humanitarian aid in Sudan, the country that suffers from one of the most dangerous humanitarian crises of our time.

The UN coordinator drew attention to the recent donor donors’ declaration of large -scale discounts and comments for financing, which led to a large part of support for humanitarian organizations that work to reach about 21 million people in urgent need of assistance in Sudan this year, adding that these cuts come at a time when the needs in Sudan were not greater than ever, as more than half of the population suffers from hunger and the spread of famine.

The UN coordinator emphasized that the sudden discounts in financing and its suspension would end the life -saving humanitarian aid of millions of women, children and other weak groups throughout the country. In the absence of urgent funding, famine is likely to spread in the coming months, stressing that this is the time when every life artery must flow to save lives.

The United Nations Coordinator called on all the main donors to reconsider their decisions to reduce the financing of life -saving humanitarian aid in Sudan and urged other governments, donors and institutions to move urgently to help bridge the gaps left by these devastating cuts
