The head of the Iraqi Parliamentary Finance Committee, Atwan Al -Atwani, stressed that the Iraqi government is serious in achieving independence in the field of energy, while the Chargé d’Affairs of the American embassy in Iraq, Daniel Robinstein indicated that the import of natural gas is outside the sanctions system.

A statement of the Finance Committee, received by the Iraqi News Agency (conscious), said that the head of the Finance Committee, Atwan Al -Atwani, discussed with the Chargé d’Affairs of the American embassy in Iraq, Daniel Robinstein and his accompanying delegation, ways to enhance joint cooperation between Iraq and the United States of America in terms of managing and developing the financial and banking sector work.

He added that the meeting focused on discussing the American sanctions file and its impact on the electric energy sector, especially in light of the talk about the end of the period of exempting Iraq from importing Iranian gas.

Al -Atwani stressed the importance of this visit at this time, stressing the need for permanent communication to correct the path of Iraqi -American relations, carrying the “Chargé d’Affairs of the embassy an important message to the government of his country, that stopping the import of gas will be disastrous consequences for the Iraqi people, especially in the summer, as it will cause the collapse of the national electricity system, because there are no alternatives at the present time.

Al -Atwani called on the American administration to review the policy of pressures exerted by the American treasury on the financial and banking sector in Iraq by imposing continuous sanctions on local banks, indicating that Iraq has achieved a qualitative shift in the policy of compliance and financial transfers, and despite that we are surprised by collective sanctions targeting Iraqi banks without warning and without declared justification or even the notification of the Central Bank of Iraq to that, and this is what created for us a major problem, and an impact on the work and activity of the sector Banking.

For his part, the Chargé d’Affaires of the American embassy in Iraq, Daniel Robinstein, expressed his understanding of what Al -Atwani presented during the meeting regarding the files of energy and banking penalties, and promised to transfer these messages to his country’s government in the hope of finding treatments and permanent solutions and in the interest of the two friendly peoples, pointing out that the import of natural gas is until now outside the penal system.
