The administration of US President Donald Trump canceled the exemption that allowed Iraq to pay money to Iran for electricity, as part of the “maximum pressure” campaign followed by the current US administration against Tehran.
A US State Department spokesman said, according to the American “Al -Hurra” channel, on Sunday, that the decision not to renew the exemption upon its expiration “ensures that we do not allow Iran to any degree of economic or financial mitigation.”
He added that Trump’s campaign against Iran aims to “end its nuclear threat, reduce its ballistic missile program, and prevent it from supporting terrorist groups.”
