The Chairman of the African Union Commission, Musa Faki Mohamed, expressed his deep concern about the escalation of tensions and clashes in Nasser Province in the state of the Nile, which included a deadly attack on a United Nations helicopter, in addition to violence in the states of the west of the tropical and west of Bahr al -Ghazal, which threatens the peace process.

Faki Muhammad strongly condemned this violent escalation, calling on all parties to exercise the utmost restraint, according to a statement on the African Union website on Saturday.

He also urged the authorities to hold the perpetrators of the entire violence and take urgent measures to protect citizens, calling for the immediate endowment of hostilities, adherence to the ceasefire arrangements, and urgently involvement of the parties in a national dialogue.

In this regard, the African Union Commission is conducting consultations with the authorities, the international government agency concerned with development (finding), and those with other interests on joint procedures to ensure calming the situation.

Faqi Mohamed reiterated the continuous invitation of the African Union for the parties in South Sudan to the full implementation of the peace agreement, as well as the African Union’s commitment to support this pivotal national process, on which the future of South Sudan depends on peaceful coexistence, unity and joint responsibility.
